Originally from the small town of Olds, Alberta, Julie Casselman is an actor, writer, sound designer and multi Jessie-nominated composer currently based in Vancouver. She was nominated for the 2015 Outstanding Newcomer Ovation Award, won the Dr. Dasha Goody Award for musical theatre, and has had her original music performed on Swedish television. Her play The Motherers, produced by SpeakEasy Theatre’s Pull Festival, was selected to be one of their few published pieces in 2018, and she is currently in the development of Ever Child, an exploration of foster care in Canada, with Woven Storm Collective.

Recent composition highlights include The Two Gentlemen of Verona (Bard on the Beach), The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe and Outside Mullingar (Pacific Theatre), the bilingual production of John and Beatrice/Jean et Béatrice (Vortex Théâtre), Twenty Something Theatre’s Tender Napalm, star star theatre’s gypsy punk puppet show Kolejka (rEvolver Festival/Upintheair Theatre) and the live foley design of Three Stories Up - Theatre in the Dark (Alley Theatre). Selected acting credits include Pride and Prejudice (Chemainus Theatre), Eurydice in Eurydice (Plan Z Theatre), Darling, a Musical (Springboard), Don Giovanni (Vancouver Opera), August in the Spring (Satellite Theatre), and The Great Divorce and Wit (Pacific Theatre). Julie loves to explore art that asks questions about truth and faith, encourages child creativity, or is multidisciplinary. She holds a BFA in Acting from TWU and is regularly found at the Bolton Academy of Spoken Arts, where she teaches children about acting, playwriting, and finding your own voice.
